We are currently recruiting for a Manager, Emergency Preparedness to work with Emergency Preparedness in the Department of Community Safety for this exciting opportunity.

In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating the implementation, evaluation, and on-going maintenance of the University Emergency Preparedness Program. The Manager is also responsible for ongoing planning in the development, coordination and delivery of Emergency Preparedness training initiatives, including oversight of the University Emergency Response Warden program, Unit-Specific Emergency Response Sub Plans, table-top Emergency Preparedness exercises, overseeing development and delivery of Emergency Preparedness related training and other related initiatives. During a state of emergency, the Manager provides support to the Emergency Operations Centre Staff. This position also works to ensure the safety of the campus community by working collaboratively with a diverse community of students, staff and faculty to support safety incidents, issues and programs in an inclusive manner demonstrating tact and judgment. The Manager ensures the Department provides high quality, customer-focused services to the York community according to the University’s mission and the department’s mission of Emergency Preparedness.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess:
A university degree from a recognized University; a degree in Emergency and/or Disaster Management, Business Continuity Planning, or in a related discipline is preferred. Training in adult education is an asset. Certification in or professional designation in emergency or disaster management or related program would be an asset (e.g. IAEM, CEM, DRI, ABCP, CMM etc.). Being a member of Ontario Association of Emergency Management, and/or International Association of Emergency Managers would be an asset. Must be certified by The Ontario Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) to deliver emergency management training to the Provincial Standard Level. Such training includes but is not limited to; Basic Emergency Management and Incident Management System Level 100 and 200 training or equivalent, and other training as applicable. In addition, the successful incumbent will possess a minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in emergency or disaster management, emergency response planning, business continuity planning, or a related discipline, of which 3 years’ experience directly managing Emergency Preparedness systems or programs is required. Minimum 3 years’ experience managing staff is required. Minimum 3 years’ experience managing financial and operational resources required. Must have experience in development and delivery of training programs. Emergency Management experience in large organizations and/or a university environment would be considered an asset. Must have exceptional knowledge of emergency or disaster management standards, regulations and legislation (e.g. Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, 2006, CSA Z1600, NFPA 1600, Environment Canada’s Environmental Emergencies Regulations, CSA/CAN Z731, etc.). Experience in development and evaluation of online training formats and use of digital and web based learning technologies required.
