    OAEM Student/Intern Membership Eligibility Requirements
     
    A student member shall be an individual who is enrolled in emergency management and/or business continuity related academic studies on a full-time basis at a recognized post-secondary institution in Ontario, or within Canada if a remote/hybrid program, or an intern who applies for OAEM Student/Intern Membership, arranges for the payment of the membership fee and who is approved by the Director of Membership.

    Proof of eligibility for Student/Intern Membership requires a letter of acceptance, name of post-secondary institution and copy of current Student Card or in the case of Interns, a letter to confirm internship. A student is not an individual who is a professional working full-time in an emergency management or related field. Student Members are eligible to serve on any appointed committees but shall not be eligible to hold elective offices or have voting privileges.
     
    For OSAP purposes, a person is in full-time studies if they are taking 60% or more of a full course load. People with disabilities and special needs may choose to be considered as a full-time student if they are taking at least 40% of a full course load. A student or trainee who works, sometimes without pay, at a trade or occupation to gain work experience.
